Guitars and Choices Blurb:

Asher Logan has been a lot of things: runaway, guitarist, cage fighter, cowboy, but the one thing he’s always avoided was being a father to his young son. Now faced with returning to his families ranch, he’s forced to deal with the knowledge that the move would put him right down the road from Shawn. Still, it’s better than staying in the city, with drunken, bitter older brother Cole, whose anger and prejudices have made him difficult to be around.

Add in the fact that Asher’s new boyfriend, Conner, is eager to make the move with him, and there’s little argument that he can make against it. But returning home means facing demons, and the barn he’s avoided since the day his father caught him and his first love together in the hay. Speaking of his father, when the old man finds out Asher is back, he knows it will only be a matter of time before he demands Asher come to the prison to see him.

Moving means facing a buried past and truths long hidden, but staying in the city isn’t good for anyone, least of all Asher’s young nephew, Rory. It’s a hard road to face, filled with tough choices, and an old secret that just might provide more questions than answers.

Excerpt:

“Settle down, little one. No one is going to hurt you here.”

His gaze darted to the hallway Chris had disappeared down, and he let out a low rumble.

I smiled and answered his silent question. “Not even him. He will come around.” After he’d got over having a werewolf in the house and came to terms with the idea that werewolves were real, that was.

“Trust me. Now settle down.” Though keeping my tone calm, I put as much force as I could muster behind the words.

I wasn’t a shifter, and the animal had no reason to obey me. But power was power, no matter where it came from, and I was praying it would be enough. Otherwise, I was screwed.

The wolf growled, shifting his center of gravity lower down his back as he prepared to jump.

I was familiar enough with werewolves to know they reacted to strength and dominance, so I tried again, putting more of that behind my words. “Enough!”

The growl subsided without dying completely, and the eyes holding mine became more alert, the anxiety in them half-replaced by curiosity.

“That’s it. Settle down.”

The wolf whimpered and crouched until his belly rested on the floor. He regarded me carefully, his upper lip still curled in a threat. He didn’t trust me. Not yet. The feeling was mutual.

I wasn’t his alpha, nor did I want to be, but I needed him calm and obedient. My heart, which beat loudly when I first faced the animal, had lowered to a more normal rhythm. Sweat soaked through my T-shirt, and I was willing to bet money the wolf could smell the fear on me. I held his gaze, bringing up even more power.

Calm down, damn it!

The wait stretched on; a nerve wrecking staring contest. I didn’t move, barely breathing. Slowly, the wolf’s body went slack, the lip uncurling. The pupils shrank back to normal size, for a wolf anyway, but some of the angst remained.

“That’s it. Good boy.”

One of his ears flicked, head tilting to the side.

“I need to check how bad you’re hurt.”

The wolf tried to crawl farther back, clearly not happy with my suggestion.

“No, I mean it. You’re hurt. I need to see what is going on.”

The growl was back in his throat.

“Enough!” I used power to put strength behind the command. “Shift!”

His eyes widened, but the force behind the words could not be ignored. He tried to fight me, I could see it on his face, but I kept my gaze and the stream of power steady, waiting for him to submit.

Eventually, the tension left his body and he stretched out on the floor. The pupils changed slightly, their color softening to a warm brown. The fur rippled as the muscles beneath rearranged themselves. The shoulders widened, the neck thickened, and the muzzle retracted.

Bio picture

About the author:

Born in Romania, land of the Iele and Vlad the Impaler, AIMEE BRISSAY has spent all her life surrounded by stories. She has ridden side by side with d’Artagnan and The Three Musketeers to retrieve the Queen’s diamonds, set sail on the Erasmus in search of the Japans, fell in love with Rhett Butler and roamed the Wild West alongside Old Shatterhand. She has walked in the footsteps of the Olympian Gods and searched for Zalmoxis’ sanctuary in the Carpathians. In her mind, she’s never been the damsel in distress but rather the knight in shiny armor fighting for a cause. Aimee Brissay loves each and every one of these characters with a passion, and has always had a soft spot for the men-on-men fellows.

With a background like this, turning to writing was no surprise. Aimee discovered Men-on-Men erotica early in life and has never looked back. After that first story, she devoured all the books she could find. And when she ran out, she decided to write her own. Aimee Brissay has over 10 stories published, varying from contemporary to fantasy and BDSM, men-on-men, men-on-men-on-men or on-women, and anything in between.

She can write anywhere, even in a crowded room or a busy subway station, but she loves solitude. When she’s not at her evil day job or she’s not torturing her characters in her latest WIP, she can be found writing or playing with her cats. Or her newly adopted dog, because 5 cats are just not enough.

She welcomes messages from readers and promises to answer all of them as soon as possible, though that can mean anything from one hour to a month.

Update: Book reports and WIPs

Hello everyone!

If you’ve noticed things have changed a little bit on my blog and ebook selling sites. Due to an unfortunate set of circumstances on the part of my publisher, Wayward Ink, forcing them to close their doors. This has effectively canceled all my contracts, and all rights for my series of ebooks have reverted to me. I am saddened by this because I had hoped to form a solid relationship with Wayward Ink that would be mutually beneficial for us both. However, ’twas not to be.

While in some ways it’s nice to have total control over my work again, the awkward part is that I’m unprepared to have no stories to sell. I’m not about to rush something out and force a story out into the world that isn’t ready. That benefits no one. Yes, I could self-publish my books again, but my current workload (on and off writing) is a little stressful right now to split my attention that much further on marketing a second edition. And to be honest, I’m really bad at that kind of stuff. (What? A creative person who lacks marketing skills? What madness!)

With a little research, I discovered some options to re-submit these books to another publisher. I revised all three books and sent them in a few weeks ago. So right now I am in wait to see where we go from here. Who knows? If they don’t take the series, I may self-pub them after all. The Ship Logs of the Santa Claus will rise again one way or another.

864

In the meantime my free stories can be found on Gay Authors. There’s a link in the header as well.

I am working on a short story, hopefully to be included in an upcoming anthology and revising my novel Innocence & Carnality for future publication. Once I can get those under control, I have a choice of a few WIPs to choose from for my next venture.

Wish me luck!

Blog Tour – Serpent’s Kiss by Layla Dorine #excerpt #paranormal #mmromance

My fellow author, Layla Dorine has a new release and I’m thrilled to be part of her blog tour. Layla has been kind enough to share some of her thoughts as well as an excerpt from her new book, Serpent’s Kiss. Read and enjoy!

From Layla:

It’s a pleasure to be able to take part in your blog, thank you so much for helping to share Serpent’s Kiss with readers, it was such fun to write this story, the characters and their world just came to life, fast and furious, almost too fast for me to keep up. I’ve learned to write fast, type fast and scribble every sort of note I can just to keep up, but it’s all worth it when I get to moments like this one. It’s funny though, that this story came without any planning, no outlining, no character sheets or any of the things I tend to do when I have an idea but aren’t really certain of who the characters are. In this case, it was the world that was uncertain, and the characters who were loud, bright, and fully developed in my mind from the moment they started speaking right up through the end.

For the most part, I’d always considered myself a pantser, but at the conclusion of Serpent’s Kiss towards the end of last year, I found myself in an unusual position for me. I actually did not have another WIP to shift my attention to. I had partially competed manuscripts that I was unsure of what they wanted to become, but I had nothing I could dive right into, and that was a bit disconcerting for someone who is used to writing every day.

For the first time since college create writing classes, I found myself turning towards planning, aided by a very well timed erotic writing workshop I decided to take part in. I found myself digging out character sheets, planning aids from other workshops, world building aids, and every other manner of plotting material I could find, in order to get me started on the next story and wow, what a difference. I used to find them stifling, but when I really needed them the most, those old notes and that old way of doing things really stopped me from falling into a writing slump. I have 5 WIPs in various stages at the moment, and each first draft is coming along nicely, all thanks to those little planning tips that allowed me to take these small, two and three line ideas that popped into my head and grow them into a story. I can’t wait to be able to share those stories with everyone.

Back view of a mysterious man walking in a padestrian tunnel

Blurb

While searching for their missing sibling, Zaiden and his sister, Kaandhal come across the last pure blooded psy-clairvoyant of their kind. Unfortunately for them, Darian has no idea what he truly is and isn’t much interested in learning, or in helping them locate their brother, Zxex.

A bounty hunter by trade, who’s been all but banished from his family due to his visions, Darian’s a bit cynical about his ability to be of any assistance to them. Never-the-less, Zaiden brings him back to their home Rhumba, where Darian discovers that very little is what it seems.

With plots unfolding all around them and discoveries about his own heritage leaving Darian reeling, he is left with the choice of whether to embrace who and what he is, or spend every moment with them a prisoner on the fringes of their society.

Add in a pesky little bond that only seems to grow the more time he and Zaiden spend together, and several factions looking to gain possession of him and Darian is left wondering if his visions just might be the least of his troubles.

Back view of a mysterious man walking in a padestrian tunnel

Excerpt

Gesturing with his hand for the minister to lead the way, Karim directed them away from the drafty auction space and back toward the warmth of living quarters through a series of twisting tunnels. They bypassed a cavern filled floor to ceiling with weapons and for a moment, Darian forgot to move. Mouth hanging open, he studied the blades and other close quarter weaponry, surprised to not see bows or guns.

Karim grinned, and stepped closer to Darian, though he did not attempt to touch him this time, for which Darian was grateful. The bodyguard was confusing. He might even be easy to like if he didn’t work for Tihara’s crazy ass.

“Impressive, aren’t they?”

“Hell yeah,” Darian remarked without thought, quickly realizing his mistake. “Sorry, but if ever a moment called for cursing, this was it. Holy…seriously, this one amazing armory.”

“This is but a small collection, the true armory if kept far from here. Perhaps, if you cease to annoy my mistress she will allow us to spar with a few of them, if you believe you are capable.”

“I’ve done my share of playing with knives.”

“Good, then I look forward to testing just how much play you are capable of.”

Darian flicked out his tongue, licking along his upper lip, deliberately teasing the same way it seemed as if Karim was teasing him. For a moment, the minister was forgotten as he locked eyes with Karim and saw the interest flicker in the other man’s eyes.

“I love a good challenge,” Darian remarked. “Let’s just hope you’re as good as you seem to think you are.”

“I am afraid your little sparring session will have to wait,” Minister Valero interrupted. “There is much I need you to look into tonight.”

“Yes, sir,” Darian replied, not wishing to displease the man and risk confrontation, especially when the vibes rolling off the minister weren’t ones of violence, or cruelty. Unfortunately, the minister did not seem to be the type to be easily manipulated, and from his physical stature, he looked like he’d put up quite the fight. Not good for his chances of escape. There’d likely be plenty of time for sparring Karim in the future.

Karim led them the rest of the way to a lavish suite of rooms without further interruption and handed the minister the key.

“There is chocolate syrup in the refrigerator along with milk, drinking a combination of it seems to help him recover after a vision,” Karim explained. “There is food in the refrigerator and supplies in the pantry should you wish anything additional. I am to retrieve him tomorrow morning at ten, until then, he is yours.”

The minister gave Karim a dismissive wave, his attention entirely on Darian. He’d hardly looked at the room, and it made Darian wonder just how much time they would spend in the common areas. He hopped the man would allow him to eat and drink, at least, or it would make for a very long evening.

Blurb:

After having been kicked off the family ranch by his father, Marc Poulson has made a new home for himself as the foreman of the Double R Ranch. His fellow ranch hands are his family, but he’s still not complete without Casey Morgan, his counterpart at the neighboring Del Rio Ranch. In the middle of a feud with his one-time best friend, Marc struggles to understand why Casey would rather take a swing at him than talk to him. He wants to put the past behind them and rebuild what they once had and make their relationship stronger than ever, but Casey is having none of it.

Casey has his own demons to deal with, and Marc serves as a reminder to things he’d rather forget. Casey can’t see beyond the past and continues to make mistakes that put both him and Marc in harms way. After one close call too many, Casey must decide whether his past is more important than his future, or if he can live with Marc walking out of his life—possibly forever.

Excerpt:

“EARTH TO Marc, come in, Marc.” Rick made a show of waving his hand in front of Marc’s face. He waited until he had Marc’s attention. “Did you hear anything I said?”

“Sorry.” Marc glanced at him, but the lure of Casey Morgan was too strong to ignore. He returned his gaze to linger on the blond who had walked through the doors of the bar a moment earlier. “I was distracted.” Half of the bar separated them, but he knew from experience that the chances of avoiding a confrontation were slim to nil.

“Obviously.” Their companion, and coworker, Jason snickered.

“What is it with you and him?” Rick’s gaze danced between the two men. “You two can’t be in the same room together without going for the jugular.”

“It has nothing to do with you.” Marc didn’t want to get into it and was desperate to stop the barrage of questions before they could start. “You concentrate on yourself and let me handle my own problems.”

Marc tracked Casey’s progress through the bar until he sat at a table with two of the hired hands from the Del Rio Ranch. As the foreman for the Del Rio, Casey was the direct counterpart of Marc’s position at the Double R. The owners of the two ranches were close friends, and up until a few months earlier, so were Casey and Marc. It was amazing how one thing could cause friends to become bitter enemies, and it was nothing more than a misunderstanding.

“We lost him again.” Jason needed to wipe the smirk off his face.

“Knock it off.” Marc forced his attention away from Casey and back to Rick and Jason. “What were you asking?”

“Never mind.” Rick shook his head. “Since we have tomorrow off it can wait until Monday. No sense in talking ranch work if we don’t have to.”

“Sounds good to me.” Jason finished off the beer in front of him.

Marc swallowed the last of his own drink and headed toward the bar for the next round. Despite being the sole bar in town, it wasn’t busy, and within a couple of minutes he was turning to head back to his table with three fresh beers. As he turned, his shoulder brushed against a newcomer, and Marc turned to apologize, but the words stuck in his throat when he found himself face-to-face with Casey. If he’d realized Casey had the same idea, he would have stayed in his seat and let one of the other two go.

“Poulson.” Casey’s greeting dripped with hostility.

“Morgan.” Fuck the apology. Marc pushed past him but stopped when Casey mumbled something under his breath. His entire body went stiff, and he struggled to breathe through the anger. He should have ignored it and walked away, but it built inside him until he was seething with every breath he took. “What the hell did you say to me?”

“You heard me.” Casey leaned against the bar and tried to stare him down.

“That’s bullshit and you know it.” Marc took a determined step forward. He had a couple of inches on his former friend and wasn’t above trying to intimidate him. Not anymore.

“It’s not bullshit if it’s the truth.” Instead of backing down, Casey straightened up, anger flashing in his eyes.

“I’ve had it with this crap.” Marc clenched his jaw. He’d tried to keep his cool, but if Casey was itching for a fight that bad, Marc was ready and willing to oblige. He ignored the little voice in his head telling him it was a bad idea. Marc plunked the bottles he was holding onto the bar, flexed his hands at his side, and waited. He wouldn’t throw the first punch, but if Casey did, he wouldn’t walk away. “I wasn’t the only one there, and you damn well know it.”

“You may as well have been.” Casey sneered and grabbed the beer the bartender set down. He tried to shoulder his way past, but Marc refused to move.

Marc reached out and grabbed ahold of Casey’s arm to keep him there. “Oh, I don’t know about that. When are you going to admit you liked it?”

With a wrench of his arm he whirled Casey back around. The bottle clutched in Casey’s grasp slipped free, shattering on the floor, and beer splashed up onto their boots. Their gazes collided, and Marc could see the fury simmering in Casey’s eyes. Determined to use his height advantage, he took a step forward until there were a mere couple of inches separating them, forcing Casey to look up to meet his eyes. When Marc didn’t release his hold on him, Casey knocked his hand away.

“Don’t.” As cliched as it sounded, if looks could kill, Marc would drop dead on the spot. “You have no fucking right to touch me.”

“Like this?” Marc reached out with one hand and shoved Casey’s shoulder.

“Bastard,” Casey replied.

“Point being?” Marc repeated his earlier action, this time putting enough force behind it to cause the infuriating man to stagger into the table behind him.

“Go to hell.” Casey growled and turned toward his table.

“I’ll meet you there.” Marc laughed and moved to grab the beers from the bar. He heard one of the Del Rio hands yell and turned a second too late. Casey’s fist connected with his jaw and sent him stumbling back into the bar.

“Fucker!” Marc launched himself toward Casey and placed a couple of well-aimed blows to Casey’s stomach and ribs. It didn’t bring near the satisfaction he’d expected. Instead, regret trickled through him and was enough to throw off his concentration. Casey didn’t hesitate to take advantage, but Marc managed to deflect the blow with his shoulder. He grunted in pain as the next one connected with his ribs. Thank god Casey hadn’t managed to land a shot to his liver. That would have had him writhing in agony.

Shelving his feelings of remorse to study later, Marc shoved Casey hard enough to send him careening into a nearby chair. Taking advantage of gaining the upper hand, he pressed on and within moments Marc was rolling on the floor with Casey as they each tried to gain domination over the other. Marc managed to land a few more punches, but then someone grabbed his arms and pulled him away. His entire body hurt, but he ignored the pain and struggled to get free.

“Fuckers. Let me go.” The more he fought, the tighter he was held. Despite his attempts, Marc was no match for the men intent on dragging him away. Through the haze of anger he saw two men pull Casey to his feet and resumed his struggles, but there was no freeing himself.

The adrenaline drained out of him, and, as his vision cleared, he recognized the two men holding Casey back as the two hired hands from the Del Rio Ranch. He turned his head to see who had him and met Rick’s gaze. A groan slithered from his throat as he looked on his other side and found Jason regarding him as if he was a snake about to strike.

“You can let me go now.” Marc tried to jerk his arms free.

“Sorry, boss man, can’t do that.” Rick’s grip tightened to the point Marc was sure he’d have bruises. On top of the ones he’d have from Casey.

“You’ll fucking pay for this.” Casey struggled against the two men holding him, blood flowing unimpeded from his nose.

Marc glanced at his hands and winced at the blood coating his split knuckles. With his quarry now out of his reach, he allowed Rick and Jason to lead him toward the exit. He couldn’t believe he’d been goaded into yet another fight. Though, if he was honest, he’d egged Casey on as well. Now he had to figure out how he was going to explain the night’s events to his boss, once word got around, and it would. That should be fun. Rick and Jason almost had him to the door when it opened and revealed the lean body of the sheriff blocking their escape.

Author Bio

Louise Lyons comes from a family of writers. Her mother has a number of poems published in poetry anthologies, her aunt wrote poems for the church, and her grandmother sparked her inspiration with tales of fantasy.

Louise first ventured into writing short stories at the grand old age of eight, mostly about little girls and ponies. She branched into romance in her teens, and MM romance a few years later, but none of her work saw the light of day until she discovered FanFiction in her late twenties. Posting stories based on some of her favourite movies, provoked a surprisingly positive response from readers. This gave Louise the confidence to submit some of her work to publishers, and made her take her writing “hobby” more seriously.

Louise lives in the UK, about an hour north of London, with a mad dog called Casper, and a collection of tropical fish and tarantulas. She works in the insurance industry by day, and spends every spare minute writing. She is a keen horse-rider, and loves to run long-distance. Some of her best writing inspiration comes to her, when her feet are pounding the open road. She often races home afterward, and grabs pen and paper to make notes.

Louise has always been a bit of a tomboy, and one of her other great loves is cars and motorcycles. Her car and bike are her pride and job, and she loves to exhibit the car at shows, and take off for long days out on the bike, with no one for company but herself.

Falling Hard by Dale Cameron Lowry #mmromance #contemporary #paranormal #erotic

hard-copy

Title: Falling Hard
Author: Dale Cameron Lowry
Length: 233 pages/57,000 words
Publisher: Terrestrial Press
Genres: short stories, contemporary romance, paranormal romance, erotic romance

Blurb

Falling Hard features nine of Dale Cameron Lowry’s best short romance stories, available for the first time in one book. Meet a sign language interpreter who finds unexpected love at middle-age, college students in their first relationships, a vampire who would rather be a vegan, and a proudly gay ex-Mormon atheist who sells Bibles for a living. From sweet to erotic, this collection exhibits the quirkiness, fun, and diversity Dale’s writing is known for.

Here are just a few of the stories in Falling Hard:

Excerpt

From Loggerhead:

He was going through the coolers, taking inventory for the next morning’s deliveries. His hair was disheveled, the white sleeves of his chef’s uniform pushed up past his elbows, and he was talking non-stop, the way he often does when he’s exhausted. He turned to me at one point, holding a pair of carrots for me to inspect. They were twined around each other like lovers – had somehow grown that way in the ground. “I hid this from the line cooks because I wanted to show you,’ he said. ‘This is what’s happening to my heart, with you.”

To celebrate the release of Falling Hard, Dale is running a giveaway. The prize is one of Dale’s short romances that is not in the anthology: Love Unmasked,  a lighthearted romance about Aaron Loreto, a gay man who’s been unlucky in love because he occasionally turns into a raccoon. For some reason, his ex-boyfriend didn’t like the way he’d spend all night digging through the trash. But somewhere out there is a guy who’s more understanding, and Aaron might just have found him at his favorite coffee shop.

Author Bio & Links

Dale Cameron Lowry lives in the Upper Midwest with a partner and three cats, one of whom enjoys eating dish towels, quilts, and wool socks. It’s up to you to guess whether the fabric eater is one of the cats or the partner. When not busy mending items destroyed by the aforementioned fabric eater, Dale is a writer and editor who enjoys wasting time on Tumblr, listening to podcasts, studying anatomy, getting annoyed at Duolingo, and reading fairy tales. Previous careers include sign language linguist, grocery store clerk, journalist, gardener, and camp counselor.

Dale began writing for fun at the age of eight and has been making up stories ever since, from overly workshopped literary fiction to off-the-cuff fanfic. Queer Mormons have a way of popping up in Dale’s work, whether it’s romance or erotica, sci fi or fairy tales, slice-of-life contemporary fiction or spine-tingling horror. So do immigrants and emigrants, people with disabilities, multilingual folks, and others who live their lives navigating multiple cultures.
